The Strictly Hugs Dancing ball is one of the most anticipated events in the Hugs from Henry calendar. With 6 novice dancers ready to show their hard dance training alongside the professionals of Puttin on the Ritz dance centre.
The event has kindly been sponsored by GA Solicitors who took up our headline package. Within this package GA nominated a member of their team to be a part of our all important judging panel, marketing manager Katy Mckenna will be one of our 4 judges alongside one of their guests.
With only 5 days to go we spoke to Katy McKenna at GA…
When did you first hear about Hugs from Henry?
GA has a longstanding relationship with Hugs from Henry which started back when it was still Hugs for Henry. One of the partners, Tony Dupreez, has been a trustee since Hugs from Henry registered in 2015, and I have known Elsbeth, the charity founder and Henry’s mum, since secondary school. GA Solicitors selected Hugs as our charity of the year in 2014 and raised nearly £2000. We have stayed in touch and continued to provide support ever since.
When approached about sponsorship what were the key points that made you want to sponsor our event?
The Strictly event sounded like so much fun and is Hugs’ most high-profile event. So much effort goes into organising its ball each year and this was particularly the case this year with all the dancers giving up their own time to learn a routine – before then performing it in front of hundreds of people. This level of support meant that we too really felt we should step up.
GA is a great supporter of local charities, how many charities does GA support a year?
Around 25 charities and organisations are supported by GA staff members each year. Although we have a nominated charity each year in regards to fundraising, GA actively encourages all employees to take part in various activities, become trustees, join boards and become involved in community engagement programmes. This ensures a long term and positive impact on the organisation, not just a short term handout. Staff members work with these organisations for years, providing commercial acumen and pivotal legal advice, greatly benefitting the charity and the wider local community.

What are you looking forward to at the Strictly Hugs dancing event?
This is a tough one! Obviously it’s to see the dancers in full swing and in their full glitz and glamour. Although I am also very excited about being a judge, particularly as we will have score paddles just like on Strictly! I will definitely be swatting up on all my dancing knowledge before the big day!
The Hugs Strictly ball takes part on November 16th in Plymouth, with Thanks to Puttin on the Ritz who have trained the dancers since March
